Family Playfest June 26 – 28 – A Thousand Cranes & Androcles and the Lion

Two wonderful productions take you across continents from Japan to Africa.  Daytona Playhouse and
Director Kathy Thompson offer the perfect summer time family entertainment at a very family friendly
price - two children's productions for the price of one.   The cast of young actors, ages 11 to 16, from
our community are all waiting to dazzle you on stage.

Friday evening, June 26 at 7 PM and again at 2 PM on Saturday and Sunday see the award winning
A Thousand Cranes by Kathryn Schultz Miller, the true story of Sadako Sasaki, born in Hiroshima in
1943.  Sadako was the star of her school's running team, until dizzy spells  forced her to face the
hardest race of her life - a race against time.   In the hospital, her friend Kenji makes a paper crane
for her and reminds her of the legend that says if one folds 1,000 cranes, his or her wish will be
granted.  This play has been performed by hundreds of schools and community theaters across the
country and children as young as Kindergarten are mesmerized by the story.

Following A Thousand Cranes at 8 PM on Friday, June 26, and at 3 PM on Saturday and Sunday,
families will laugh and cheer watching Androcles (or perhaps Androclea) and the Lion by Kathryn
Walat.  An updated version of the Aesop fable,  a singing mouse, escaped slave, and a hungry lion
form an unlikely trio of friends whose bond is put to the test by an evil Emperor in this enchanting and
heartwarming play.  Fractured Fairy Tales may come to mind.

Each production runs about 40 minutes with a 20 minute intermission.  Tickets are $5 for children 12
and under and $10 for 13+.  One ticket gets you both shows.  General admission with no assigned
seating and the box office will open one hour in advance of each show.  You can call Kathy Thompson
at 386-672-7667 and reserve general admission tickets in advance to then pick up at the box office
on the day of the performance.  So mark your calendar for the last weekend in June.  Round up all the
family and friends to support our young performers.  It is wonderful family entertainment you shouldn't
    miss.

An Evening of One Acts July 24 - 26

The third Summer Splash offering is a night of One Acts directed by two folks who will be very familiar
to Daytona Playhouse's audiences – Carrie Van Tol and Corey Sowers.

Carrie Van Tol will be directing the hilarious He's Having a Baby by Fred Carmichael.  The story
revolves around three anxious about to be mothers: Mrs. Murray, a first timer who is constantly at the
point of hysteria; Mrs. Foster, who is having her seventh child and is outwardly very calm; and Mrs.
Groton, already a mother, but determined to become the parent of a girl. As they wait to deliver they
start speculating what would happen if men had babies and women paced the floor of the maternity
waiting room. Both men and women will find plenty to laugh about.

The second one act is Ada Gives First Aid by Eunice Merrifield directed by Corey Sowers.
Scatterbrained Ada organizes a class in first aid, even though Ada doesn't know the difference
between a break and a sprain! But the "victim" is taken sick and cannot appear for the demonstration.
Then a strange man has an accident in Ada's garden. Fate has handed a victim to the first aid class!
And what "the girls" do to him is a caution! They discover that their victim is a doctor who has moved
next door. He goes home, groaning and complaining. The girls are crestfallen until they get their next
victim-- a riot of laughter for good time summer fun.

Auditions-Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th of June at 7 pm
An Evening of One Acts-Friday July 24 8 PM, Saturday July 25 8 PM, Sunday July 26 2 PM
