Welcome to 1976 Daytona Beach. Lyndsay O'Donnell, local author and playwright, has assembled a group of budding actors to rehearse a 30-minute play about the Founding Fathers which is to be presented on the Fourth of July at the beachside Bandshell. Fueled by cherry Kool-Aid and Lorna Doones, the cast quickly realizes that wrestling with 18th-century language is nothing compared to surviving each other's egos and local town gossip.
In February of 2026, the city of Daytona Beach Shores approached the Playhouse about producing a play celebrating the writing of the Declaration of Independence for America 250. Frank Butterfield wrote the script. Set during the 1976 Bicentennial, the play introduces the audience to the history of the signing using modern language. Robin Bassett assembled the players and directed the play.
